Apparently, this winter is going to be the coldest for 31 years. This is marvellous news for polar bears, but something of a blow for the rest of us. So in a bid to keep warm, we embark on week two of our opaque odyssey – I know! Who knew tights could be so fascinating? – and find ourselves in the rarefied world of high-end hosiery. Some of you might be lucky enough to live there all the time, but the rest of us could usefully have some examples in our armoury for a special occasion/date/new boyfriend, though naturally for the latter I can’t really condone anything other than stockings and suspenders or hold-ups: no man ever gasped with delight at a nylon gusset.
Oddly, in spite of being possibly the most high-maintenance girl in the world, I’ve never bought expensive hosiery it would appear that the glamour associated with women's underwear and lingerie failed to embrace what the Americans call pantyhose
I didn’t know, for instance, that a pair of tights could look expensive until I put on Wolford’s Velvet de Luxe
Whether the above are worth the investment depends how rich you are or how hot the date is. I struggle slightly with paying £20 for a pair of tights that, knowing me, I’d snag immediately.
Arguably it’s not all about me, but that’s not an argument I either like, or agree with, so I’ll ignore it.
